How To Set Up WordPress Multisite On MAMP
Starting off the setup process of MAMP
In order to get started you can download the free version or you can also get the pro-version for the advanced features and functionality. Once you are done with the downloading of the version then get started with the installation with the help of tutorial. You will find many help online for the installation and configuration of the MAMP and WordPress for development and local testing.
First, setting up the virtual host is important so that we can add a host name of our own rather than using the default one. After completing this step you can direct the hostname to the directories to install the WordPress.
Now comes WordPress and multisite
When you are done with MAMP installation and configuration and have tested that it is working fine then you can start with the installation process of WordPress. While downloading WordPress it must be kept in mind that the latest version needs to be downloaded and then you can just place it under the specified directory (DocumentRoot in httpd.conf file).
Doing this will help you to access it through domain.local/and now it is multisite’s turn to get enabled. The Multisite doesn’t get enabled automatically instead you have to enable it manually by following the steps that is provided in the tutorial.
Done with installation, now explore
When you are done with installation of WordPress and Multisite, you can ad in some Multisite plugins for better performance. Some of the plugins that recommended are – Jetpack, Multisite Admin Bar Switcher, Multilingual Press, Multisite taxonomy widget, WordPress Multisite Domain mapping, Simple Multisite Sitemaps.
WordPress Multisite provides a lot of opportunities to explore the all new interesting features and loads of possibilities by simply navigating through Network Admin area. If you want to add or create any site of your own in your network then you can do that by clicking on sites and then selecting the option of Add New. Here you will have to fill up the blanks be entering the site name and you will get a new one in your network.
When you are moving around you will find there are so many features to explore, in some places you will be required to edit or maybe deactivate something, archive, delete or visit any site or may be go to its dashboard to explore much more.
So, you now have a platform where you can host all your sites with a single installation of WordPress. Do whatever you want but always remember to take back up.
