The first thing is the name. The new Apple Watch is not named the Apple Watch 2 as you may expect. In fact the Apple Watch Series 2 is the name it’s been given, with the first Apple Watch, now known as the Series 1.
What’s new with the latest Apple Series 2 Watch?
The actual design hasn’t changed, it is the same rectangular design we saw on the first Apple Watch. This was expected according to the rumours that we were seeing on the run up to the September 7th announcement. This is not a necessarily a bad thing, as the Apple Watch is beautifully designed, something you expect from the tech giant Apple. In fact the thickness has increased by 1mm, allowing Apple to put one or two extra things in. However, the extra thickness is not noticeable at all. There is a new finish, ceramic, which has replaced the rather expensive gold Apple Watch cases.
New Faster Processor
This brings us to the hardware, this is where the real change has taken place. There is a new faster processor, which is actually 50% faster, the chip is dual-core and graphics performance is twice the performance of the previous chip. Apps are now noticeably faster as a result of the new chip. However, the Apple Watch Series 1 is receiving this upgrade as well.
There is a lot of excitement around this term, a 1000 nits, that has been used for the screen brightness. Essentially, the difference is, that the Series 2 is twice as bright as the first Apple Watch, meaning you will pretty much never have any problems looking at the screen, even in direct sunlight.
Perhaps the biggest feature to be announced, is the internal GPS chip. This is great for those who like the fitness aspect of the Apple Watch, as you will not need your phone for GPS. So you can run with just your watch.
Apple Watch Series 2 Is Now Waterproof
Another well received feature, is the new Apple Watch is now waterproof. So swimming is now an option for Series 2 holders. There is also a partnership that has been formed, between Apple and Nike so we now have an option to buy a special version of the watch, with its own band and even watch faces all geared to fitness.
All of this now brings us to the price. At the time of writing The Apple Watch Series 2 will set you back $369 at the most basic price. For the larger screen size and more elaborate bands, the price will be significantly more. However, with the Series 1 which has received a price cut to $269 and it has that new chip. Pre-orders have already begun, which started on September 9th. The official launch of the Apple Watch is actually today, September the 16th.
They can do no wrong. Whatever the product they launch there are many thousand of people waiting to jump on the next innovative product. I don’t blame them this latest offering is stylish and keeps the branch at the forefront of wearable technology.
